MARTIN HOLROYD

Safety Expert and Training Manager

As a Safety Expert and Training Manager at Oxalis Adventure, Martin Holroyd is responsible for technical training activities for guides, safety assistants, and porters across Oxalis. He provides specialist training in caving and technical rope work techniques, rescue techniques, water safety, river crossings, and water rescue to ensure that our customers have the best possible experience exploring the caves of Vietnam. Martin also assists with tours to Son Doong as a caving expert as required, sharing his passion for caving and knowledge with our customers.

Martin Holroyd is an experienced and knowledgeable cave safety expert from the UK, with over 40 years of caving experience. His passion for caving started at a young age, and he has since explored caves all around the world, including Vietnam, which he first visited in 1997 as part of a UK caving expedition.

Before joining Oxalis, Martin worked for the Fire and Rescue Service in Cumbria, UK, as the Station Manager. During his time there, he attended a variety of incidents and was responsible for the operational training of staff. Since retiring from the Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service, Martin has been working for Oxalis for the past seven years as a training instructor. His expertise and experience in caving and emergency services make him a valuable asset to the Oxalis team.

Martin's qualifications include training and assessing relating to incident management, technical rope rescue, and water rescue. He is also a volunteer team member of the local Cave and Mountain Rescue team in the UK and is currently an underground controller. He also assists Cumbria Fire and Rescue as a Senior Associate Instructor.

Martin's passion for caving and mountain running has taken him to many parts of the world on caving expeditions, including Vietnam, where he has explored and mapped new caves and enjoyed classic caves. His experience and expertise in caving and emergency services make him an invaluable member of the Oxalis team, ensuring that our customers have a safe and unforgettable experience exploring the caves of Vietnam.

In his free time, Martin enjoys spending time with his family and continuing to explore caves and mountains. He is passionate about sharing his knowledge and experience with others and is always willing to help and answer any questions our customers may have.
