The prestigious travel website Lonely Planet has selected 9 of the most beautiful destinations from North to South in Vietnam, offering travelers fascinating natural experiences.
Ba Be National Park
Ba Be is an ideal destination for adventurers and outdoor lovers, with towering limestone mountains, vast valleys, and lush forests surrounding it. The waterfalls, caves, and lakes here create a stunning natural landscape with over 550 species of rare plants and animals. Exploring Ba Be by boat, trekking, or cycling through the forest will surely provide unforgettable experiences. Afterward, you can relax and recharge at the local Tay ethnic homestays or guesthouses.
Ban Gioc Waterfall
Ban Gioc is one of the most beautiful and famous waterfalls in Vietnam, often depicted in guesthouses and inns for travelers. The water from the Quay Son River cascades down to form the Ban Gioc Waterfall, marking the border between Vietnam and China with its impressive scenery. Visitors can explore the waterfall on a bamboo raft, getting up close to the roaring waters and the foam splashing around.
Ha Long Bay
The landscape of Ha Long Bay combines thousands of limestone mountains with clear blue waters, making it one of the top tourist destinations in Vietnam. With about 2,000 islands of various sizes, Ha Long Bay offers countless experiences, from sightseeing to activities like cruising, kayaking, mountain climbing, swimming, and seaplane flights. If you wish to avoid the crowded spots, you can head to the nearby Lan Ha Bay to enjoy a more peaceful alternative.
Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park
With its rolling hills covered by dense tropical forests and winding rivers between mountain valleys, Phong Nha-Ke Bang is one of the best national parks in Vietnam. The deeper you go into this area, the more spectacular the beauty you will discover. It’s a must-visit destination for tourists. Particularly, a few lucky visitors get to explore wonders like Son Doong Cave, go ziplining, kayak around Dark Cave (Hang Toi), or venture into Paradise Cave (Dong Thien Duong).
Son Doong Cave
In addition to Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, Lonely Planet’s editorial team selected Son Doong Cave as a natural wonder of Vietnam. It’s the largest cave not only in Southeast Asia but also in the world. Son Doong Cave stretches over 5 kilometers, is 200 meters high, and some sections are up to 150 meters wide. The cave is located in the limestone mountain range on the Vietnam-Laos border and was discovered by a local man, Ho Khanh, while seeking shelter from the rain in 1991. Nowadays, visitors need to book a tour in advance, with conditions requiring physical fitness and trekking experience to explore Son Doong on a 4-day journey.
Thuy Son
Thuy Son is the largest and most famous mountain in the Ngu Hanh Son range. With surrounding caves, it forms the center of spiritual and religious practices of Buddhism and Hinduism. Visitors can ascend Thuy Son via two paths, with the route closer to the sea offering a more scenic view. At the summit, you will find the Tang Chon Cave, followed by the Linh Ung Pagoda.
Mui Ne
Mui Ne (Phan Thiet) is a famous tourist spot known for its vast white and red sand dunes. The pink and white sand dunes are the area’s top attractions, drawing many visitors for photography, sandboarding, and off-road driving experiences. The dunes here are uniquely shaped by nature, with their hues changing throughout the day.
Phu Quoc
Surrounded by clear waters and fine white sandy beaches, Phu Quoc is the ideal place for travelers to “kick back and relax,” enjoy cocktails, sunbathe, and immerse in the blue sea. If you’re feeling more adventurous, you can rent a motorcycle and explore less-traveled dirt roads.
Bai Sao Beach
Bai Sao Beach features long, smooth white sand that curves like a crescent moon, embracing the coastline with crystal-clear waters. Located just a few kilometers from An Thoi (the main port in the northern part of Phu Quoc), there are several beachfront restaurants near Bai Sao Beach where visitors can take a break, stroll along the beach, or enjoy water activities before savoring fresh seafood.
