The event's main goal is to showcase Vietnam's tourism and film potential. It will give U.S. filmmakers a chance to explore our unique, iconic locations. Notably, the partners had the opportunity to meet, exchange ideas, and officially sign five cooperation agreements, opening up new prospects for multilateral collaboration. Through this event, Oxalis wants to send a message of welcome and openness. We want to create a friendly filming environment for international filmmakers. With our experience in many international film projects, Vietnam can become a new spot for global cinema with its diverse and beautiful landscapes. From helping the Hollywood crew of "Pan: The Neverland" at Hang Én, to the 360° Sơn Đoòng project with National Geographic, Oxalis has shown we can meet the needs of filmmakers. At the Tú Làn Cave System, we contributed to the success of famous films like "Kong: Skull Island" and "The Immortal." We also facilitated filming for "ABC's "Good Morning America" at Hang Sơn Đoòng" and Hang Én. In 2019, our company continued to provide logistical support for Alan Walker's music video "Alone Pt.II" at Sơn Đoòng. Recently, Oxalis worked with the BBC film crew for 20 days at Hang Sơn Đoòng. They filmed amazing scenes for episode 6, titled “Extremes,” which has been nominated for two Emmy awards in 2024.
Because each film crew is different, Oxalis has experience in balancing personnel and logistics to coordinate effectively with filmmakers. For projects like the music video or documentary "Planet Earth III," Oxalis helped coordinate 150 support staff for 6 crew members over 3 weeks. We took care of safety, transportation, and accommodation. We also handled tasks before filming, like getting permits and providing lighting support. For bigger projects like "Kong: Skull Island," which had more than 150 crew members, Oxalis didn’t manage logistics directly. Instead, we helped the crew work with local authorities, find filming locations, and provide human resources for the filming process.
Overall, Oxalis can adapt and support different types of film projects, from small documentaries to big blockbusters. This has attracted international filmmakers to Vietnam. These films not only showcase Vietnam's beauty to the world but also help local tourism. Mr. Nguyễn Ngọc Quý, the Director of the Quảng Bình Tourism Department, says that after international films like "Kong: Skull Island" and part of "Planet Earth III" were made here, the number of tourists, both local and global, has quickly increased compared to previous years.
The combination of film and tourism promotes economic development
The Việt Nam Tourism - Cinema Promotion Program in the United States took place as film tourism becomes a global trend. According to "Expedia's Travel Trends report", two-thirds of travelers worldwide consider trips inspired by films. Notably, 39% of them have actually booked trips based on stories from the screen. This number shows the great potential of combining travel and cinema.
Many countries have recognized and successfully used the strong connection between these two industries. For example, China has invested hundreds of millions of dollars in film studios like Hengdian and Wuxi. In the U.S., Universal Studios Hollywood is not just a film studio but also an amusement park, attracting millions of visitors each year. These examples demonstrate the power of combining film and tourism to promote economic and cultural development.
Throughout the event, Oxalis Adventure will actively connected with filmmakers, directors, and production designers. We showcased unique locations in Quang Binh, share our experience in supporting international film crews, and discuss future collaboration opportunities.
Oxalis Adventure's participation in the Việt Nam Tourism - Cinema Promotion Program in the United States is not just a chance to promote our business. It is an important step in bringing Vietnam's beauty closer to the world. With continuous efforts, Oxalis Adventure and Vietnamese tourism companies are working towards making Vietnam a new destination for global cinema.
