Oxalis donates lighting equipment to 5 underprivileged households in Lung Puot, Tuyen Quang

Tuyen Quang is not only a land rich in historical significance for the Vietnamese Revolution but also an ideal destination for explorers. It was once the capital of the liberated zone during the August Revolution, featuring prominent landmarks such as Tan Trao Communal House and Lan Na Nua. In addition to its historical sites, Tuyen Quang is blessed with stunning natural landscapes, such as the Na Hang Ecological Lake, often referred to as “Ha Long Bay in the heart of the mountains,” and the picturesque Gam River.

This harmonious blend of cultural heritage and natural beauty made Tuyen Quang the choice for Oxalis to organize a company trip for all employees in early October 2024. During this journey, Oxalis also engaged in meaningful charitable activities to support the residents of the remote Lung Puot area. Located in Khuon Ha Commune, Lam Binh District, this area is detached from modern amenities but stands out for its majestic mountain beauty and streams winding through pristine forests. To reach Lung Puot, Oxalis members embarked on a challenging trekking route, navigating steep hills. Despite the difficulties, the team exchanged smiles and lively conversations throughout the journey.

The residents of Lung Puot do not have access to the national electricity grid; they rely on natural energy and small-scale agricultural production, primarily cultivating corn and cassava and raising livestock and poultry. Upon arriving in the village, Oxalis presented 5 gift packages to 5 households, each consisting of a solar power kit and 1 million VND in cash.

With a spirit of support and community bonding, Oxalis members worked together to install solar-powered lamps for each household. Despite facing many challenges in life, the residents of Lung Puot maintained their warm hospitality, greeting Oxalis members with smiles and traditional local dishes. Experiencing the traditional stilt houses and listening to the everyday stories of the households deepened the members’ understanding of local life and culture.

Warm conversations with a cup of tea helped Oxalis members gain more insight into the lives and culture of the local people.

Since its founding, Oxalis has identified one of its three pillars of operation as contributing to the local community. In Quang Binh, where Oxalis’s headquarters are located, we have undertaken many meaningful activities aligned with this mission. Free swimming lessons for children along the Son and Rao Nan rivers have helped reduce the risk of drowning accidents. Scholarships have been awarded to underprivileged students, motivating them to continue their education. Oxalis has also pioneered the construction of floating houses for the residents of Tan Hoa village, ensuring their safety during annual flooding. Additionally, Oxalis creates job opportunities for locals as porters, guides, and cooks, helping them achieve stable livelihoods and grow in the tourism industry.

At the end of the trip, the Oxalis members returned not only with beautiful memories of nature and the warm hospitality of the Lung Puot residents but also with a renewed sense of the value of sharing and community responsibility. What Oxalis has done and will continue to do is an essential part of the company’s journey towards sustainable development.
