Oxalis Foundation summarizes the 2024 free swimming course

Oxalis Foundation was established by Oxalis Adventure to support sustainable community development. The foundation aims to improve local living conditions through education, skill-building, and community support.

One of Oxalis Foundation's main programs is a free annual swimming course for children. This program targets kids from villages along the Rao Nan River in Minh Hoa and Tuyen Hoa districts, and the Son River in Bo Trach district, Quang Binh. The course started in 2019 and continues yearly. It aims to teach swimming and water safety, especially since Quang Binh has many natural rivers and streams, which pose risks of water accidents.

The foundation fully funds the course, with 500,000 VND provided for each child who learns to swim. The funds come from the profits of Oxalis Gearshop products, such as trekking clothes, accessories, and sandals, and a portion of Oxalis Adventure's profits.

7 Villages Along the Rào Nan and Son Rivers Join Free Swimming Lessons

The 2024 free swimming course runs from June 11 to August 16. It is in seven villages along the Rao Nan River (Minh Hoa, Tuyen Hoa) and the Son River (Bo Trach).

The course takes place in five villages with river-based instruction and two villages with pool-based lessons. The participating villages are Xuân Trạch, Phúc Trạch, Phong Nha Town, Hưng Trạch, Tân Hóa, Minh Hóa, and Cao Quảng. The river-based lessons are in Cao Quảng, Tân Hóa, Phong Nha Town, Hưng Trạch, and Phúc Trạch. Minh Hóa and Xuân Trạch offer lessons in pools. Phúc Trạch provides lessons in both locations: the Chày River and the Suối đá Resort pool.

The course targets children aged 8 to 15. A total of 813 children completed the program. The goal is to teach basic swimming skills and water safety, helping children be confident and safe during water activities, especially in flood-prone areas like Quang Binh.

Every summer, children's swimming classes are held in the Phong Nha and Tan Hoa areas.

Oxalis organizes swimming classes along the banks of the Son River.

Swimming Course Objectives and Learning Outcomes

The 2024 swimming course includes 18 sessions of theory and practice. Children will learn to float, frog swim, backstroke, crawl, and personal survival skills. The course also covers water safety rules and how to use flotation devices and rescue poles.

The instructors are local PE teachers with swimming expertise. They have undergone training by the Quang Binh Department of Culture and Sports. With enthusiasm and dedication, they help children master swimming safely and confidently. Each instructor is responsible for 5 children, ensuring maximum support.

Before the course ends, the local People's Committee and Oxalis Management will supervise a test. Children must swim at least 20 meters to pass. Those who meet the requirement will receive an additional 4 to 5 sessions to ensure they can swim 20 meters.

The teachers will closely monitor and support the children during their swimming lessons.

Oxalis Wraps Up 2024 Swimming Lessons and Scholarship Initiatives

The free swimming course in 2024 was a great success, with 813 children completing the program. They gained essential skills to protect themselves during water activities.

The organizers ensured absolute safety for the children by marking the swimming area with ropes and buoys. These measures prevented students from swimming outside the safe zone and made managing the class more manageable.

In addition, some communes, like Cao Quang and Phuc Trach, actively sent youth teams to supervise and provide rescue services throughout the course.

The teacher guides the children in warm-up exercises before they enter the water.

The children will swim within the safety of the designated buoyancy zone.

In addition to organizing swimming courses, Oxalis Foundation has awarded 313 million VND in scholarships to students across seven communes. These include Phong Nha Town, Phuc Trach, Xuan Trach, Tan Hoa, Cao Quang, and Ban Doong and funding for the Quang Binh Study Promotion Association. This money helps support students, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, with their education.

Oxalis representatives provide school scholarships to support children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Oxalis Foundation hopes these meaningful activities will improve the quality of life and safety of children in the area. The foundation also aims to encourage kids to confidently participate in physical and social activities in the future.
